What is a chromosome (染色体)? Let's find out with Professor Nobuko Ohmido of Kobe University. Chromosomes are visible in the cell's dividing stage under microscopes. Chromosomes are not only the plasticity substrate (可塑的な支持体) for the compaction (凝集) of DNA in the nucleus (核). The function and structure are essential for accurate cell division (細胞分裂) and inheritance of genetic materials (遺伝物質の次代への伝達). Visualization (可視化) of chromosomes by advanced research could demonstrate potential characteristics and abilities of chromosomes. The wonder-land of chromosomes present the possibility for high quality of life in many fields of agriculture, medical care, industry and global environments.
