Graduate Admissions - Non-degree seeking

Overview

The Faculty of Human Development offers non-degree programs for international students. The programs provided are as follows.

Research Student Program

Students conduct specific research in their field of interest with academic advisors. Duration is within one year. Entrance periods are in April and October. Students must obtain an approval from their prospective advisor before application. Certificates indicating the students' Japanese language ability are required on application. Students are selected based on the submitted documents and an interview.

1. Entrance Periods and Application Periods

  • Entrance periods are in April and October.
  • Application periods and application procedures are as follows.
    - (Residents in Japan) Application period is in February for entrance in April, while in July for October. An application form should be brought by an applicant him/herself to the Academic/Student Affairs Section of the Graduate School of Human Development and Environment. Applications by post will not be accepted.
    - (Residents outside of Japan) Application period is in October of the previous year for entrance in April, while in April for October. An application form should be brought by an agent residing in Japan to the Academic/Student Affairs Section of the Graduate School of Human Development and Environment. Applications by post will not be accepted.
  • Research duration is within one year. However, it may be extended to one more year if there are any special reasons.

2. Eligibility

(Master research students)
University graduates, those who are expected to graduate, or those who have equal or higher scholastic ability.

(Doctoral research students)
Master's degree holders, those who are expected to get one, or those who have equal or higher scholastic ability.

3. Selection Method

Students are selected based on the submitted documents and an interview.

4. Necessary Documents

The following is a list of documents required for application: Application form (with approval seal of a prospective advisor and photo required), curriculum vitae, School graduation certificate (expected) or certificate of completion (expected) of the latest academic background, Transcript, Certificate indicating the students' Japanese language ability (see note below).

(Note) Either of the two following should be the one to prove Japanese language ability:
- Bachelor's degree certificate or certificate of expected
- Japanese-Language Proficiency Test Certificate of Result (N1 is required for the Graduate School of Human Development and Environment)

Exchange students

Students from overseas universities, which have concluded academic agreements with Kobe University or the Graduate School of Human Development and Environment, may study as exchange students at the Graduate school, based on the agreement, for the duration of either long or short term.
