[サイエンスショップ] 第25回 兵庫サイエンス E-cafe 「高校生による科学研究」

*今回のE-Cafeは台風のため中止となりました。
今後の日程については改めてお知らせいたします。
*Unfortunately, September's E-Cafe was cancelled due to the typhoon.
We will reschedule the session and make an announcement in the future.

The 25th Hyogo Science E-cafe "Student Presentations! "

In this Cafe we will have high school students come and present on the research they are doing at their schools!

We have three different presentations. Here are the topics and abstracts:

Topic: Effect of Substances Secreted from the Roots of the Mycoheterotrophic Plant Gastrodia pubilabiata on the Growth of its Mycorrhizal Fungi
Abstract: Mycoheterotrophic plants abandoned their photosynthetic ability and fully depend on their symbiotic fungi for their carbon demands, but never supply the fungi with any nutrients. The mechanisms to develop this commensal or parasitic relationship haven’t been clarified. In order to elucidate this, the hyphal growth of the symbiotic fungi of the mycoheterotrophic plants, Gastrodia pubilabiata were examined under the several conditions. It was suggested that plants produce chemical signals to establish symbiosis.

Topic: Preparation of biodegradable structural color multi-layer films composed of biopolymers using a cast method
Abstract: My research is to develop structurally colored multi-layer films composed of biodegradable biopolymers. To produce proportional multi-layers, we used a cast method. As a result of experiments, a single layer film of hemoglobin turned opaque, and films of hemoglobin and kappa-carrageenan showed unequal thickness. In double layers, just combination with BSA and dextran were transparent. Thus, it revealed that dextran and BSA are good combination to make multi-layers. We will try to make structural colored multi-layers by using these materials.

Topic: A simulation study of red blood cell deformation and destruction caused by mechanical effect
Abstract: Prevalence of exercise-induced iron deficiency anemia is notably high in athletic populations. Preceding studies have revealed the mechanical properties of Red Blood Cell (RBC) in shear flow, such as in artificial hearts. Here we study to reveal the destruction process of the RBC by tank-treading motion and clarify the mechanism behind this process by using computer simulation. When we started the simulation with an initial volume of 1.7 times larger than the natural state, we succeeded in reproducing a biconcave shape.
